Why are people still falling for the oldest trick in the book?
After reading the high end forum and seeing 1 victim of the old 'drop ur item on the ground i cant see it in trade!' trick... im just wondering... are people seriously THIS retarded? It's not rocket science peeps. I hate it so much that I see people all the time getting scammed from this trick. I looked on Gailes wiki page and someone was qq'ing about them losing some bow. SEriously people... let it be known from here on out that:
1: Don't EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER drop an item on the ground thats valuable.
2: Just because someones not an Assassin doesn't mean they cant tele to you! The person in the thread said they werent scared cause the person wasnt an /A , news to you peeps, EBON ESCAPE, a pve-only skill that will own your face when the noob steals your item.
Please people... stop falling for this trick. -________-

Perhaps we can see plainly the possible age and/or lack of social life the person had.
Nonetheless, idiot is as idiot can get. It's too difficult to think why people don't know what a trade box happens to be.

Why are people still falling for the oldest trick in the book?
Probably because they're so stupid they don't know how to read
It's not even about experience or knowledge, just common sense; I remember back before I even started really reading guru (and therefore hadn't seen all the scam stories) I was trying to sell a weapon in LA which was worth about 50k at the time. I got a pm from someone interested saying that they wanted to see what it looked like outside. We zoned and I equipped it and paraded it in front of him. He then asked to let him "hold", I think he said he wanted to see how it looked with his armor or something. I told him that would be fine so long as he let me "hold" 50k (what I was trying to sell for) for him as insurance. He refused then pinged his moderately expensive weapon sets, saying something along the lines of "I'm rich, you can trust me!" I lol'd and mapped back to LA.
I agree with the natural selection thing, in the real world you don't go handing the rolex you're trying to sell to someone on the street so they can walk around with it for a bit and see how it feels, you keep it locked in a case and only let them touch it in very controlled circumstances. In short, it has little to do with game knowledge and more to do with not trusting random people; it may sound cynical, but in reality its just good sense.

ever think maybe its a new person to the game.. just cause we have all played for 2-3 years.. doesnt mean everyone has.
so before you all call someone stupid (be it out of ignorance) Think about it!
maybe they dont come here to read all the flames.. as that what this site has really turned into. Maybe they have only been playing for a week, or so and dont know about how things work in gw.
Common people.. grow up before you post your comments about how the person was lacking intellect!

You don't have to know the ins and outs of this game to not be scammed. The same rules generally apply to trading items in ANY game, or for that matter, in real life. Common sense should dictate the correct decisions.

Being new to gw doesn't excuse a lack of common sense. Knowledge of game mechanics has little to nothing to do with knowing not to give your stuff to strangers, or dropping it on the ground where they can pick it up. Also, if someone's really that new to the game, I somehow highly doubt that they're going to have anything that someone's going to try to bother to scam them out of, unless they bought gold, in which case I have no sympathy for them.

Seriously people still fall for this trick and the 5g for 5k (gold instead of plat) trick.
Why because they are retarded, and stupid and they don't know any better

I would like to point out that the best scams involve people who gain trust, and then swindle the person.
Not that you ever hear much of that actually.
But on topic, ya that guy was lacking something.

Because players are not provided with a good way to sell stuffs?
I blame Arena Net, if they have given us a good seller systems no one has to go and drop anything on the ground and also no using 5g to scam for 5plat either.

2 people were trying to scam me earlier, in 1 hour.
both claimed they want to see the skin outside
1 was a sin, he casted recall and run away from me, then he dropped like q9 runic blade, darkwing defender etc, saying he'll trade me those and 100k for my voltaic spear. I mapped back before he ask me to drop the item. (I totally should've brought Ebon Escape and pick up one or 2 of his items)
the second one was a Mo/Me saying his trade window is bugged, and wanted me to drop my voltaic spear so he can screenshot and pricecheck it. He probably had his fingers on "Ebon Escape" and "Item-Nearest" keys and would fly to me as soon as I drop it. I was thinking of dropping a different gold spear but too bad it was in storage, or else I could've reported him.

Because people (New people to GW) don't know about this
the rest are just plain greedy and out for what they can get.
I once was selling something about 4 or 5 months ago and this guy asked to go outside for me to drop it etc etc.
I played along for a laugh and at the time dropped a chitten frag and boom he took it and
and was gone.
I was laughing so hard when he PMed me saying he was going to report me
for scamming "him" if i didn't give the proper item to him.
I said go ahead mate and report me then. LOL

Greed.
The normal pattern of these is that someone wants to buy so and so for more then its worth. So the seller wants to speed through the transaction before the buyer realizes he's overpaid. Instant pixel wealth still makes people stupid.
@neighto People new to the game wouldn't have something worth pulling this scam off on.

It seems that naive ppl (those who you called stupid, retard etc) are much more rejected than those assholes who actually scam those guys...while i agree with you that this is coused by ignorance (not retardness), i dont share the "stupid noob, lets point and laugh at him"-mood.
